Journal entry:
Today’s poem is derived from The Sunday Whirl. I hope maybe you will take time to create something from this wordle.
The Reunion
I scrape off the rough barnacles
That cocoon my flinty tongue,
The words brittle like old chalk
Blur in the austere presence
Of those drenched in the cold hate
Splattered upon me by their slander
Which burnished my youthful days,
And yet I speak soft syllables
Of generous friendliness
Accepting them without regret
Moving beyond the fallen tears.

Mom, Hope and Ko-Ko…
I am grateful:
1. Laura and Alex had some time to spend together before his deployment to Afghanistan.
2. I can rely on God to make life worthwhile.
3. The internet allows me to stay connected to others for whom I care.
4. Tomato soup and toasted cheese sandwiches made us a good supper.
5. Writing is an honest joy.
I hope you are enjoying this Memorial Day weekend, and that you remember why we celebrate. I believe creativity honors our time here, so do something creative today.
If you enjoyed this entry, or have suggestions for improvement, please leave me a comment.
Always,
Jo Ann
I enjoyed the experience of visiting your blog immensely – it’s somewhat eclectic but I admire that … and your wordled poem is cleverly woven …
If you’re so inclined, check out what I did with the same words this week:

Thank you so much for visiting my blog and leaving a comment SEIngraham. I hope eclectic is good, at least you did not say eccentric, though I think I am. The blog is a bit mixed because I am working with a wide range of creative ventures. I am glad you liked the poem. Wordles can be very challenging. I visited your blog and loved your poem.
Always,
Jo Ann
Excellent use of the wordle in a beautiful, hope-filled poem, Jo Ann. The theme of forgiveness shines through clearly. Well written.
I am glad you liked the poem Traci. The first line came quickly, then I had to build the images… I enjoyed visiting your blog, thank you so much for commenting on mine.
Smiles,
Jo Ann
You built great images. Wonderfully done..

Thank you Gautami. I am so glad you visited my blog and hope you will come again.

Love “Reunion”- what is the Sunday Whirl?
Sometimes it’s difficult to celebrate our uniqueness, butr we always gotta try.
Ray,
I thought when I wrote “The Reunion” that you might like it. The Sunday Whirl is a website that posts a collection of words they call a wordle to prompt poems. You might like to visit the site, the link is in my blog entry.
I think we struggle with our uniqueness because we have a strong desire to fit in with the crowd.
Smiles,
Jo Ann
Hi Jo Ann
I enjoyed looking at your pile of reference books. Isn’t it wonderful all of the help and inspiration we can gain from reading through the works of others!
I really liked your poem today–very uplifting.
Have a wonderful Memorial Day. The sun is finally shining today here in Idaho after three days of rain and snow.
Laura
Laura,
That is only a small sample of the writing and creativity books I have. The words others share with the world are our greatest teachers, and they are ready to help us at any time.
I am glad you liked the poem. It was a progression of discovery.
I hope your Memorial Day is wonderful too. I cannot believe you have had snow, our temperatures have been in the nineties.
Smiles,
Jo Ann
I love the variety, like walking through your house: mom behind this door, a poem in this room, something else in the kitchen. It’s fun, although I forget this is your style and keep wondering where the heck comments are hiding! I’ll remember next time.
I like the idea of the barnacles in conjunction with the tongue. I had something similar. And we both cocooned them!
Margo,
I hope the blog is not too confusing. The creativity project makes it ramble a bit.
I hope you will find your way back and thank you so much for the comment.
The words in the wordle just fell together that way. I like these poems out of rambling words.
Smiles,
Jo Ann
