After All

Aggravation comes
Like a rainy day pouring
Agony droplets
Into a life unrehearsed
Flowing evermore onward.

My smile returns like
A rainbow emerging out
Of gray falling mists,
I cannot remain angry
Because I am so blessed.

Jesus fills my life
With unending streams of joy
That refresh my soul
Making my days flower like
A beautiful fertile field.

I am grateful:

1.   Alex says Laura will take care of his jury summons.
2.   I woke to my alarm this morning.
3.   Our drive into town was pleasurable.
4.   Two of my photos placed in the contest last night.
5.   My books, Where Do You Get Your Ideas? by Fred White and How To Blog A Book by Nina Amir arrived today.

This was a very good Friday for me, I hope you fared as well. Before you go to bed, I urge you to exercise your creativity. You can write a poem, a story, a journal entry, or draw, paint, or photograph a picture. You might even do something else, just make something original.

As a prompt, use the word unrehearsed in a poem, story, or journal entry. I know you can create something wonderful if you apply yourself to the task. If you use this prompt, please leave a link to your work in the comments below.

Which of the pictures did you think won in the contest last night? I would love your comments about what you liked. Thank you for visiting my blog. If you would like to receive updates, please subscribe to Chronicles.

Monumental Cross won first place in the color category and Angel Prayers won third place in the monochrome category.

Always,
Jo Ann

Today’s poem was prompted by Trifecta. You might enjoy visiting that site for inspiration.

Defying Mortality

He was taken by
Death away from this acreage,
And the shadow of
His passing hangs over this
Place falling into disuse.

The grass grows high and
Underbrush begins taking
Over the good land;
Death lingers on horizon
His scythe always at ready.

I live in the light
Hiding myself in brightness
Defying Death’s hand
Reaching out for my shoulder,
I will not go quietly.

I am well aware
That all my days are numbered,
But I happily
Pass the hours without worry,
Hoping Death will grow distant.

I nourish those who
Depend on me and nurture
Them with gentle care
Holding Death far separate
From everyone who I love.

The first line for the following poem was taken from the prompt at Poetic Asides. I hope you will visit that site should you need inspiration.

Not My Own

I’m not sure who I am or what I want,
But I know what I really need.
I need to be loved so completely
I never doubt my place in the world,
And in reality God so loves me.

I think I am a writer, a poet, an artist,
But you may disagree with me.
I want you to celebrate my work,
But am aware you may not find it
Worth your notice or accolades.

I’m not sure who I am or what I want,
But I am here, existing, taking steps
To realize my purpose though I am
Not certain what Jesus has in store
For this life I have devoted to Him.

Just write and if your words take you elsewhere, follow the lines. If you use this prompt, please leave a link to your work in the comments below.

The following poem is in answer to the prompt at Carry On Tuesday. If you are in need of inspiration, please visit that site.

Fell Breezes

Who has seen the wind?
It wanders the world widely
Invisible to
All our watchful human eyes,
Neither I or you sees it.

Only its effects:
Chasing leaves from battered limbs,
Tousling auburn hair,
Howling around sharp corners,
Do we surely apprehend.

The wind chases us
Until we return inside
Beyond its long reach
During the fast fading days
Of quickly cooling Autumn.

Persistence

Writing
It is not so
Easy placing these words
Upon the empty waiting page
I am not always completely inspired
Words, lines, sentences can fail me,
But I know I must keep
On, continue
Writing

Verdant

The color green smells
Like pine needles, fresh cut grass,
And cedar branches
It is clean, clear, beautiful,
Something invigorating.

I do not understand, but I seem more able to write poems than journal entries…

Journal 10-7-20120001

The following poem was prompted by the wordle at The Sunday Whirl. The words captured there are in italics. If you need a challenge, please visit that site.

Coming At Nightfall

The brittle rustle
Of amber leaves on the breeze
Can gently charm me
Piercing the crust of my tough
Exterior persona.

An unbearable
Fever may explode within
My mind in Autumn
Before Winter sheaths willows
In a stark blanket of snow.

I work at mending
My beautiful patchwork quilts
So they are ready
For the golden lighted nights
Coming at the year’s ebbing.

October’s evenings
Shimmer with large candlelit
Pumpkins carefully
Carved into jack-o-lanterns
To scare away dark shadows.

I love these twilights
When crispness begins filling
The dusky Fall air
Sending away the burning
Heat of long bright Summer days.

This poem arrived instead of a journal entry…

Journal 10-6-20120001

Brief Promise

So precious, but so
Short lived like meadow flowers
Perishing under
The punishing sun when rain
Is withheld from the parched fields.

We are only here
The span of a few quick years
Then we disappear
From life’s monumental stage,
Actors little remembered.

We strive to make lives
Of splendid meaning which are
Worthwhile to others
Who will walk these floors after
We have passed to memory.

Our hours are treasure
We must spend very wisely
Filling each day with
Shining moments that free us
From the trap of the mundane.

We have a purpose
Beyond our simple living,
We are lit within
By the fire of our brightly
Burning creativity.

3.   I entered codes to My Coke Rewards.
4.   We have a washing machine and dryer.

I hope you have gotten to relax and enjoy this Saturday. You should take time now, if you have not already done so, to do some creative work. Your imagination is rich with images and sentences no one else can bring to life. I encourage you to share with the world. By so doing you make all of us richer.

My prompt for you today is to write about cooperation. You may approach it as something lacking, something you strive to maintain, or in another way altogether. If you use this prompt, please leave a link to your work in the comments below.

Without Warning

Sudden
How things happen
Outside expectation
Beyond my regular planning
Without any regard for preference
But I have finally become
Accustomed to such things
Unexpected
Sudden

A poem inspired by my Mom’s complaints:

Journal 10-4-20120001

Not so sure about this either, but I spent over an hour on it, so I need to use it…

Worth Our Exertion

We are not given
Any time to waste in haste,
But we are given
All the fullness of God’s grace
To fulfill our true promise.

Everyday moments
Are transformed into treasure
To fully savor
In our hours of sweet leisure
Bought with abundant labor.

We each contribute
Our creative liberty
To making something
Which enriches the beauty
Of our grand society.

Our nobility
Is boundless, never wasted
In incomplete tasks
Where our defeat is tasted;
We abide by the sacred.

Our hours are precious
Spent in honorable work
Which we are given
And will never ever shirk;
Blessed by God’s providence.

Inspiration?

I have been saving
These words for this occasion
Not knowing before
This moment exactly what
I shall place upon this page.

I write down these lines
Without premeditation
Simply making this
Statement plain and clear for you
To ponder at your leisure.

Creativity
Wells up from deep within me
Erupting into
These few solid sentences
Evoking in you response.

Imagination
Writes from the depths of my heart,
Determination
Leading me, guiding me, and
Forging some concrete meaning.

I dip in the well
Dug deep within my soul to
Capture the essence
Of the notions inspired in
This very special moment.

The following poem is an old one from the Multiply group I thought I would share here… It may have appeared here long ago, but I doubt you mine my archives that deeply.

Yearnings Bared

Fingertips touching lightly
Contact nude intensely vibrant
Passion rising immediate
Waves flowing inward
Ebbing outward.
Subtle flush suffusing
Soft ivory flesh
Under hungry tongue
Glowing brilliant with joy,
Sharing essence.
Tight breath sighing
From ruby lips
Parted recent kissed.
Chasm heaving with
Tumultuous liquid fire,
Aching for fulfillment
Tautly withheld
Until desire ignites
Jubilant frenzy
Writhing in ecstasy.
Bodies meeting
Fusing volatile exploding
In universal orgasm
Gleaming ardent bright
In total completion.
Basking in heat of
Loving aura,
Stoking the embers
Back to fire before
The dew dries
On radiant skin.
