Resurrection

They laid His body,
Lifeless, within the dark tomb,
Shadow fell across
Their souls for they did not know
What miracle awaited.

He had explained to
Them, but they lacked understanding,
Nothing prepared them
For His crucifixion and
Their loss of His leadership.

On the third day they
Found the tomb’s stone rolled away
He was not there, but
Had risen up from the grave,
Conquering death, coming alive.

When Jesus appeared
To them, they were amazed and
Overcome by joy
Here was the Lord who they loved
Resurrected and alive.

Death had lost its hold
And been swallowed up by life
The Eternal One
Christ Jesus had overcome
Sin’s punishment with victory.

My Easter has been wonderful, except the unpleasant side effects I am experiencing. I hope your day was glorious, full of joy and blessing. Gather you wits and devote some time to exploring your creativity. If I can write, so can you. You have so much to share with the world.

As a prompt, write about resurrection. You may have questions, your thoughts may differ with mine, but you should be able to examine the topic in a poem, story, or journal entry. If you use this prompt, please leave a link to your work in the comments below.

I appreciate you taking the time to read my blog. I hope you will return often, but you might also want to enter your email above and subscribe to Chronicles. I would love to read your thoughts, suggestions, or criticism, so please leave a comment.

Stormy Weather

Thunder
Rolling over
Us like they are bowling
In Heaven and my poor puppy
Dog, Hope, is frantic with apprehension.
She wants me to make room for her
In my lap, but I am
Busy just now,
Thunder…

This Saturday has been a bit taxing, as always happens when my technology does not work as it should. I hope your day was relaxing and filled with happiness. Get yourself in gear and create something. You have unlimited resources of imagination at your disposal. Do not waste time in self doubt. I believe you have the talent to do marvelous things if you only apply yourself.

As a prompt, write about the weather where you are. You know we often converse about the weather in small talk, so just create a poem, story, or journal entry that explores the subject. If you use this prompt, please leave a link to your work in the comments below.

Thank you for taking time to read my blog. I hope you will return often, but I also suggest you enter your email above and subscribe to Chronicles. I cannot stress enough how much your feedback means to me. If you have thoughts, suggestions, or criticism to share, please leave a comment.

Earnest Plea

Lord help…
Send someone who
Can minister to those
Who are so greatly in need of
Love, tenderness, understanding, and care.
Lord let me do something to help
Show me a way where there
Is not a way,
Lord help…

On Purpose

I suppose I am
On mission even here at
Home because no one
Else is willing to take on
The responsibilities
That I have with Mom.
I made a promise I will
Not break, but I thought
Mistakenly that others
Might step up and do their part.
I have to trust God
That if there is something else
He wishes me to
Do, He will make a way for
Me where there is not a way.
It is my duty
To be open to His call
Willing to do His
Work wherever I can be
Used by His almighty hand.

Thoughts

I am wondering
Why no one ever mentioned
That there possibly
Could be detrimental side
Effects to my prescriptions.

I thought these drugs were
Kinder, gentler than those of
Past generations,
I was hopeful that they were
Safer for my long term use.

If the disease does
Not get me through suicide,
I guess the meds will
Through their slow destruction of
My body’s physical health.

I am not going
To let it constantly haunt
Me with its looming
Inevitable ending,
I surrender to God’s hands.

I have been letting
Him carry me the longest
Time and now is not
The point to lose faith in God’s
Ability to preserve.

Hoke Smith, my instructor and president of the SCC, at Clinton Preserve.

Prevalent

In my life things go
Up, down, and all around,
Keeping me always
Guessing what will happen next,
Wondering about my success.

In my life I may
Never predict the outcomes,
But things have a way
Of working beneficially
Often quite surprisingly.

In my life I am
Not ever in full control,
But God always knows
His exact purposes with
Every event that happens.

In my life I make
The best of what I’m given
Trying to accept
The good along with the bad
With very little complaint.

In my life I count
Myself very fortunate
Because Jesus holds
My moments, hours, days, months, years,
Within His capable hands.

Be Aware

Wherever you are,
You are surrounded by love
Given so freely
By many who hold you in
The center of their soft hearts.

You are the apple
Of at least one somebody’s
Eye without question,
You may be unaware of
The person who holds you dear.

Even should you doubt,
Even should you have questions,
Love enfolds you in
Layers of great compassion
That will never desert you.

You may go searching
Fearing you will never find
The love of your life,
But believe he or she is
Near, you will surely find them.

Love is yours to be
Savored throughout existence,
It is always there
Enveloping you within
Its rich sweetness forever.

Passing Troubles

Problems
May last a while
But never forever,
The trials are tests we must go through
On our way to even better days where
We live in God’s bountiful grace
And can achieve our goals
With confidence

Shooting Predators

The birds of prey were
Beautiful as they flew from
Place to place with grace.

The owl and the hawks
Fascinated spectators
As they watched in awe.

The birds swooped over
Heads almost, but not touching
Me as I watched them.

Cameras could not
Capture the full excitement
Felt by everyone.

You had to be there
With the wings flapping wildly
Stirring up the air.

I will go again
And next time my photographs
Will be much better.

I hope your Wednesday was wonderful. There were parts of my day I enjoyed and parts that were quite disappointing. I took hundreds of photos today and only a few are worth sharing. The effort is the thing, nothing is achieved without practice. Now I urge you to put your creativity to work and give the world something to contemplate. You are so talented and I believe in your ability.

As a prompt, write about something you are attempting that challenges you. Trying new settings on my camera caused me dismay, hopefully your activity is less trying. Write a poem, story, journal entry, or note that explores this topic. Leave a link to your work in the comments below.

Omnipresent

His great love letters
Chase me through every single
Day of my living,
He writes His sentences on
The fabric of my moments.

Some say they cannot
See my Lord, but His presence
Is apparent to
Me in the noise and silence,
The darkness and brightest light.

I am surrounded
By His vigilance even
When I run away
From His radiant face, no
Place can hide me from His voice.

He seeks me always
Despite my numerous sins,
Jesus does love me
With everlasting passion
Greater than any other.

His love songs follow
Me wherever I wander
I cannot avoid
The words He wishes me to
Listen to and comprehend.

It does not have to be great, it does not have to be even good, just get busy and do the work. You can polish and perfect it later.

As a prompt, reflect on how mistakes and bad choices have influenced your life. You might weave a poem, embroider a story, dictate a journal entry, or jot down a note for use in the future. I know this is a fertile subject. If you use this prompt, please leave a link to your work in the comments below.
