Original Anxiety

It is unknown to
My heart what may be achieved.
I am filled with fear
That my activities might
Produce nothing valuable.

My creative work
Must be handled with great care
To bring awareness
To those it is meant to reach
Generating happiness.

I always worry
Over every word and image
Hoping they are just right,
Touching imaginations,
Enlightening other minds.

My Computer

Every day I am
Called upon to do the work
My owner desires,
I process words and images
And navigate cyberspace.

I sometimes react
In ways that cause her to curse,
But usually
I am a devoted slave
Parsing her many demands.

My keyboard grows tired
Of finger’s steady impact
And my screen seeks rest,
But I am just a servant
Performing tasks on command.

Black on White

There is space and time
Enough for us to fill up,
But words are often
Lost in the vacuum we find
Around our good intentions.

We lose the sure way
From what we intend to say,
What we really mean;
Voices waver, emotion
Colors our sayings unheard.

Yet we still speak out
Hoping to reach hearts and minds,
Not so much distant
As caught by intensity
Of all the surrounding noise.

Out of the vacuum
Arises our true meaning,
Abiding freedom,
To touch our fellow being
With love and deepest respect.

Beginner’s Earning

Working summers made
Money for things I could not
Afford otherwise.
My first job was not easy
Helping my Dad mechanic.

I learned to drive trucks,
Backhoes, earth movers, loaders,
And to weld a line.
Not a girl’s occupation,
But I loved the huge challenge.

I was so happy,
The responsibility
Helped fulfill my needs.
Muscles and mind together
Were schooled to accomplish much.

The sun cooked me
To a well-seasoned deep tan
Bleaching my hair gold.
The dirt and grease clung to me
Making bathwater run brown.

In my later years
I greatly appreciate
The many hours I spent
Learning to work with my hands;
Helping my Dad mechanic.

April Poem A Day Challenge, poem thirty:

Common Plight

Our days slip softly
By, making little lasting
Mark upon the world.
We are not mighty, famous,
Our steps leave no impression.

Our voices whisper
On the passing wind currents
Pushed toward silence.
Few hear our exclamations
Or heed our well-meant advice.

Our lives are vapor
Rising up from the soil for
Only a short while.
We go into the darkness
Of oblivion far too fast.

Our hope is in God
For He redeems existence
Making it worthwhile;
Without His enormous help
We quietly fade away.

April Poem A Day Challenge, poem twenty-nine:

But There Is No Guarantee

Life is a bargain
Made with all of creation
Fulfilling promise
Of our benign conception
Within a limited time.

We each begin with
The same opportunities,
But variables change
The way our pathways unfold,
Our destiny is not set.

We live totally
Free to make our own choices
Determining fate;
It may all work out quite well
Or it could disappoint us.

We can scale heights of
Perfect possibility,
But we may obtain
Something other than that which
We so zealously desire.

Life proceeds smoothly,
But there is no guarantee
It will finally
Turn out according to plan
Meeting our expectations.

April Poem A Day Challenge, poem twenty-eight:

Perishing Vision

The American Dream
Is constantly assaulted
And under duress
Because of great economic
Schisms between rich and poor.

The realization
Of the common person’s hopes,
Near impossible,
Because wages keep decreasing
And costs continually rise.

Many without work
Do not have adequate funds
To maintain their homes
Because the jobs disappear
And few new are created.

The politicians
Bicker in their high places,
Electorate drowns,
Because no solutions come
In time to launch a rescue.

Representation
Must be restored to people,
With equality,
Because the American Dream
Is nigh unachievable.

April Poem A Day Challenge, poem twenty-seven:

The Trouble Is Me

I could easily
Fall prey to blaming others
For my own problems,
But that is not my manner
Of dealing with existence.

My choices have cost
Many opportunities
To further my life,
Consequences developed
Because of headstrong actions.

The life I now live
Is not always everything
I would desire it
Should be, but the trouble is
Undoubtedly found in me.

I have the power
To change the circumstances,
Building destiny
That fulfills my fondest dreams
Relying on my talents.

The trouble is me,
But the solution also
Depends on actions
That I can easily take
Creating much better days.

April Poem A Day Challenge, poem twenty-six:

Hope

I was so lonely,
My son was gone far away,
Sadness dogged my days;
Then one Sunday after church
My life was drastically changed.

Wal-Mart’s parking lot
Held the sweet surprise needed
To bring me bright smiles;
Shih Tzu puppies were on sale
And one captured my whole heart.

Mom and I went in
The store to shop, but I was
Caught in intense thought;
I decided I could not
Quite afford a puppy dog.

When we went outside
Mom suggested that I should
Get the little pup;
She convinced me it was right
So I bought the pretty girl.

On the way back home
We discussed giving her an
Appropriate name;
Mom suggested Hope because
She would need it to survive.

Hope became her name
And every day she has brought
Brightness to my life;
She is my sweet companion
Bringing me great happiness.

April Poem A Day Challenge, poem twenty-five:

Motion Poem

I miss the sunshine
Reflecting off the water
As I rode above
On my Cypress Gardens skis;
Sweet poetry of my youth.

My ability
To skim over the rough waves
Was easily learned
From my patient brother who
Spent ample time teaching me.

Those bright days remain
Beautifully framed in my
Fondest memories.
The slap of wood on water
Resonates within my mind.

Wednesday is middle of the work week, so I hope all of you had a good day. The PAD Challenge for today was to write a poem about sport, so if you like, try your hand at that. If not do something else creative. It will help you relax and unwind.

There were some questions in my journal entry. Please share your answers with me in the comments if you feel so inclined.
