In His Favor

Gracious
God Almighty
Who oversees every
Thing that happens to his people
Cares for each of us very tenderly,
Minding even the most minute
Possession for which we
Have concern, God
Loves us

I am grateful:

1.   Laura and Alex were willing to give me time to get ready.
2.   I remembered to take my camera.
3.   I made it across the rocks in the stream.
4.   We found my Droid after I had lost it.
5.   Mom decided to go to her Christmas Party.

I am so happy my day turned out well, it could have been a disaster. I hope your Tuesday was uneventful. Take time to engage your creativity. There is so much you have to share with the world. I know you can make something of value if you make an effort.

As a prompt, write about an unexpected blessing. Every day things happen that are miraculous, just pick something you have experienced and write. If you use this prompt, please leave a link to your work in the comments below.

I am so grateful you took time to visit my blog. Please share your thoughts, suggestions, or criticism in the comments. If you enjoyed the work here, perhaps you would like to follow Chronicles.

Evidently

A design that is
Intelligent flows throughout
All of creation,
Beauty that transcends limits
Of imagination exists.

No random chance could
Have brought about such wondrous
Formations and life
Forms as are present in our
Widely diverse universe.

The great Creator
Turned His able hands to work
Making wonderful
Creatures and living things to
Delight himself and humans.

Still the Lord does not
Require anyone believe
In His omniscience
He simply leaves evidence
For each of us to discern.

I am grateful:

1.   I got a card from my friend, Ray.
2.   Alex came to visit today.
3.   Alex paid for the case and screen protector for my Droid.
4.   Alex’s old computer came on.
5.   I have written over 240 poems this year.

I had a great Wednesday, although I am still coughing quite a lot. I hope your day was rewarding. Make it better by using your creativity to make something fabulous to share with the world. I know you have the talent and ability to accomplish whatever you set your mind to doing.

As a prompt, write about some sort of design. You might have a different perspective to my own and might want to write in argument against my poem, or you might want to write about something else entirely. Just write. If you use this prompt, please leave a link to your work in the comments below.

If you are a regular reader I hope you know how much I appreciate your loyalty. If you are new, I hope you enjoyed your visit. I recommend you subscribe to Chronicles if you would like daily updates. Your comments help me improve, so please leave one.

This poem comes from several recent experiences, two happening only today…

Communication
Breakdown

Tell me why
All the people
I must talk to
On the phone
When doing
Business are
Difficult to
Understand.
It is like the
Phone support
All came from
Other countries
Where English
Is barely spoken
And completely
Misunderstood.
I feel as if I am
A stranger in a
Foreign land
When I pick up
The phone to get
Some assistance
And these are
Real American
Companies with
Whom I deal.
Maybe that is
Why the whole
Economy is in
A dreadful mess,
No one with a
Good command
Of language is
Working in the
Support of our
Industries.

I am grateful:

1.   I got a little sleep between 6:00 and 10:00 this morning.
2.   Alex woke me and I was happy to be up.
3.   I got a wonderful hug from my son.
4.   Alex did yard work and made things look much better.
5.   My mentor, Richard, called and we had a great conversation.

Today was a very good Tuesday for me. It is not often I get to spend time with my son. I hope your day was also pleasant. To make it even better dedicate some time to exercising your creativity. I always find there is more in my mind than I thought when I face the blank page and you may find it so as well. Do not sell yourself short, you can make something wonderful.

As a prompt, write about your experience with the telephone. I could tell horror tales about cell phones, but I will spare you. What is your pet peeve about phones, or can you not live without their presence? Tell us about it. If you use this prompt, please leave a link to your work in the comments below.

Thanks so much for visiting my blog. If you would like future updates there is a link to subscribe to Chronicles above. I am so anxious to read your thoughts, suggestions, or criticism, so please leave a comment.

Today’s challenge on Poetic Asides was to write a poem that was opposite to another written this month. At first this presented a problem, because I could think of no opposites, then I thought of the gathering prompt and came up with separate… Hence the following poem.

Separate Ways

Let us separate
Going our own directions
Because we do need
To reach beyond each other
Becoming independent.

We can live alone,
Apart from society,
Intentionally
Isolated from others,
But that would be unhealthy.

Being together
Is no doubt quite wonderful,
But we need to craft
Our space in the universe
Distinct from one another.

We become detached
Uninvolved in the lives of
Our fellows who move
In circles separate to
Our simple revolutions.

We need some distance
To develop as single
Individuals,
Autonomous people, who
Can function well on our own.

I am grateful:

1.   I did not really miss my contacts today.
2.   There were enough leftovers for supper.
3.   I did not have to cook.
4.   Alex still talks to me at times.
5.   We had Mucinex on hand.

I hope you have enjoyed a relaxing Sunday. Mine has been blessedly peaceful. Now I want to challenge you to do something that engages your creativity. Use the brilliant imagination God gifted you with to create a poem, story, journal entry, photograph, painting, or anything else that moves you. Don’t just sit there making excuses, get yourself busy.

As a prompt, write a poem, story, or journal entry using the concept of separation. If you are a visual artist, illustrate separation. I have a feeling this will not be difficult. So much is separate about our lives. Leave a link to your work in the comments below if you use this prompt.

Thank you for visiting my blog. It is an honor and privilege to have you spend time here. Should you have thoughts, suggestions, or criticism, please leave me a comment. If you enjoyed what you experienced, you might want to follow Chronicles.

I wrote the following poem in answer to the prompt at Poetic Asides. I hope you will visit that site for inspiration.

Profound Affection

My love is deep, deep
As outer space is wide, deep
As the blue ocean,
Deep enough for you to sink
Into almost forever.

I hold you inside
The heart of me, so tightly,
I will never let
You go because you do mean
The whole wide world to me now.

We are family
Our bonds are very deep and
Tight altogether,
No one can break us apart
Because we love each other.

I never forget
How dear you remain to me,
I am reminded
How precious are the ties of
Our generations of blood.

Deep is the meaning
Of our lives joined together
And deep is the love
We continue sharing with
One another every day.

Today’s poem was prompted by Poetic Asides. If you need inspiration go to that site.

Almost Heaven

Together with you,
I have paradise in hand,
Living happiness
Without any real regrets,
Given all the very best.

The stars and planets
Make endless revolutions,
But we are only
Passing sudden like the wind
God sets quickly in motion.

We are travelers
Befriending one another,
Keeping company
As we make our way through life,
Enjoying the paradise.

Today’s poem answers the prompts from Poetic Asides and Carry On Tuesday. Either of these sites might give you writing fodder, or you could combine the two as I did.

Imagine Gathering More

Imagine there was
A gathering of the saints
Who have gone before
To advise you in daily
Endeavors and teach kindness.

Imagine you were
To allow your wayward heart
To open wide and
Facilitate gathering
Help for those less fortunate.

Imagine you set
Aside your own selfish goals
To be a blessing
To a bigger gathering
Of friends and acquaintances.

Imagine going
Out of your way to reach more
Of the gathering
Poor who need benevolence
From you and many others.

Imagine God and
His angels are gathering
Round urging you to
Be so much more than ever
You have dreamed or imagined.

I am grateful:

1.   I still have time to pay the bills this month.
2.   Jeremy invited us to Thanksgiving dinner.
3.   Sam’s Club Pharmacy exchanged a $214.00 prescription for a $98.00 one.
4.   I was able to get a pecan pie and lemon meringue pie.

Tuesday is a good day to try to get affairs in order when there is a holiday later in the week. I hope your day was rewarding. Now that you are relaxing, it is time you turn your hand to creating something. I know you may feel you cannot do it, but I have faith in your ability. Just make the effort and you may surprise yourself.

As a prompt, write about your Thanksgiving plans. You might do a journal entry as I did, or you might be inspired to write a story or poem that describes what you will be doing. Just write. If you use this prompt, please leave a link to your work in the comments below.

The following poem is in answer to today’s prompt at Poetic Asides. Please visit that site if you need a shot of inspiration.

Perfect Helper

Being a writer,
I need a device that will
Write down what I say
While I am driving, walking,
Or thinking in the shower.

A device that can
Correct my grammar from speech,
That makes great copy
Which is perfect even though
I may make many mistakes.

A device that is
A competent editor
Keeping my meaning,
But fixing my syntax while
Writing my composition.

I need a device
That can go anywhere with
Me and listen to
Ideas with rapt attention,
That is my writerly dream.

Today’s poem is in answer to the prompt at Poetic Asides. I encourage you to visit that site and join the PAD Challenge.

Bons Mots Avec Mon Amis

When there is trouble,
When I am feeling undone,
Good words with my friends
Can set me back on the path
Of true joy and happiness.

My friends are treasure
Given me by gracious God
To inspire and lift
Me from the desolate depths
Of deepest darkest despair.

We may be distant,
Not knowing each other well,
But we bridge the space
With loving kindness, friendship,
That suits our needs very well.

I can often share
Bons mots avec mon amis
About anything
I choose and they will answer
Giving their good opinions,

Jesus has been good
Enough to grace my life with
People who mean so
Much to me in every way,
Bons mots avec mon amis.

Today’s poem was prompted by Carry On Tuesday. If you are in need of inspiration, you might like to visit that site.

Beneath The Surface

There is a child in
Every one of us hidden
Beneath the surface
Of our adult bodies and
Very grown up attitudes.

The petulant child
Shows up in temper tantrums,
Childish behavior,
And the unreasonable
Demands we make on others.

The playful child lives
Within forever wistful
Hearts urging us to
Enjoy every moment we
Have to spend upon the Earth.

We do well to pay
Attention to impulses
Of our inner child
For their creativity
And joy brighten up our days.

There is a child in
Every one of us gifted
With the very best
Parts of us, innocence and
Lively imagination,
