365 Creativity Project-Day 299

Journal entry:

Today’s poem answers the prompt on Poetic Asides. Please join me in the November PAD Chapbook Challenge and visit that site.

Fear Alone

Being alone scares
Me when I think long about
The bareness of it
Because I am not very
Good company by myself.

I should have learned by
Now to fully entertain
Myself on my own,
But the evenings tend to haunt
Me with their ebon darkness.

Every sound outside
Makes my heart lurch with fear, not
Knowing what lurks in
The night beyond the glowing
Illumination indoors.

I surround myself
With the little comforts of
Civilization
To keep the loneliness and
Deep fear far away from me.

Still being alone
Frightens me, but I will not
Let the fear hold me
Back from accomplishing all
The dreams I want to achieve.

I am grateful:

1.   I caught up on some sleep today.
2.   I voted early.
3.   We were not in the path of the super storm Sandy.
4.   We have electricity.
5.   My Mom is here to keep me company.

I rested today… I hope you had a recreational and relaxing Saturday. If you are not too exhausted, I urge you to do something creative before you retire for the night. I know it expends some energy and effort, but I assure you the work is worthwhile.

As a prompt, write about what words mean to you. Maybe you want to focus on a specific sentence, or you could write about words in general. If you use this prompt, please leave a link to your work in the comments below.

Thank you for visiting my blog. If you enjoyed what you found here you might consider following Chronicles. I know you may have thoughts, suggestions, or criticism to share, so please leave me a comment.

Always,
Jo Ann

  1. As a writer, I love words. I love new words, and get excited about all of them I learn, even if I forget them soon after. I love to play word games. Scrabble, boggle, word thief, words with friends, all kinds of word games.

  2. And you see, I love being alone. I can do crowds too. I do okay with small groups, but social-type parties…ewww. I need my alone time. I do love your pic. I love the broken pots. Good luck with PAD this November.

      1. You truly amaze me with the regularity and quality of your posts. You never cease to put a smile on my face and more warmth in my heart. Note to self: visit Jo Ann more often.

      2. Thank you Lara, I am glad you like what I am doing here. I am trying to decide whether I will continue when the 365 Days are over. I hope you will visit more often. I mean to encourage and uplift people.

  3. I’m better alone sometimes too. Actually, most time. I have to force myself into company sometimes. But isn’t it great that we are different? It makes the world so colourful, doesn’t it? I love your diary entry for today Jo Ann, we are made of words. Have you ever read the Bill Bryson book Mother Tongue, English and how it got that way? Brilliant book, it’s one of my favorite books to reread. 🙂
